Platform Engineer

About the role 🧐

We’re looking for a Platform Engineer who will own the automation and developer experience of the Appical product: Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD pipelines, end-to-end observability, internal developer tooling, and the test-automation suite that keeps quality high. 

You’ll collaborate closely with Backend, Frontend, Product, and QA to remove friction from the dev-loop and ensure every change can travel from commit to production (and back) in minutes instead of hours. Your work will impact hundreds of thousands of users worldwide every time we deploy.

In this role, you'll be joining the Product & Development team. A team led by Gijs Hendrix.

What you’ll be doing

• Designing, improving, and maintaining our (Terraform) IaC foundations in AWS.
  

• Creating and scaling CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI) that support multiple deploys per day.
  

• Implementing, instrumenting and evolving our observability stack (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) for metrics, traces and logs across all services.
  

• Partnering with QA to embed automated integration, contract and E2E tests into the pipeline.
  

• Monitoring - and continually reducing - lead time, MTTR, and flaky-test rates.
  

• Championing DevEx: measuring and improving developer happiness, feedback loops and platform usability.
  

• Aligning closely with the Director of Product & Development on technical strategy and roadmap.
  

• Proposing and implementing process improvements that keep us fast, safe and compliant.

Our ideal match 💗

We know no one ticks every box, but you’ll thrive in this role if you have:

• 5 + years professional experience in backend, dev-ops or platform roles, with deep IaC & pipeline expertise.

• Proven track record with Terraform (or Pulumi, CDK) and container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS).

• Hands-on experience designing CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or similar.

• Observability chops: you’ve instrumented services with OpenTelemetry and built dashboards/alerts that engineers actually use.

• Solid scripting/coding skills, bonus points if you have experience with Ruby.

• Familiarity with test-automation frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, etc.) and how to run them efficiently in CI.

• A product mindset: you treat the internal platform as something you own, document and iterate on with your users (our developers).

Don’t worry if you don’t meet all the criteria; a growth mindset and eagerness to learn are more important than ticking all the boxes.
